Steve jobs quotes - part1

On Passion

"People say you have to have lot of passion for what you doing and it is totally true and the reason is because it is so hard that, if you don't, any rational person would give up.

It is really hard and you have to do it over a sustain period of time. So if you don't love it, if you are not having fun doing it, you don't really love it, you are going to give up and that's what happening with most people.

Actually if you really look it, at the ones that ended us being successful on the eyes of society and the ones didn't, often times it's the ones that successful, loved what they did, so like they push a year when it got really tough. And ones that didn't love it, QUIT, because they're sane. Right, who would want put up stuff if you don't love it. So it's lot of hard work and it is lot of worrying constantly and if you don't love it, you're gonna fail. So you gonna love it and have passion"

On team building

"Greatest people are self-managing, they don't need to be managed. Once they know what to do, they're going to figure out how to do it. They don't need to be managed at all.

What they need is a common vision and that's what leadership is. What leadership is having a vision, being able to articulate that so the people around you can understand it and giving a consensus on common vision.

We wanted people that were insanely great at what they did. But weren't necessarily those seasoned professionals. But who has on at the tips of there fingers, in there passion, the latest understanding where technology was and what we could do with that technology and wanted to bring them, lots of people.

So the nearest thing that happens is when you get a core group of 10 great people, it becomes self policing as they who let into their group. So I consider the most important job of someone like myself is recruiting.

We went through that stage in Apple where we .. Oh! we're going to be a big company, let's have professional management. We went and hired a bunch of professional management, it didn't work at all. Most of them are bozos, they knew how to management, but they didn't knew how to do anything and so if you're a great person, why do you want to work for someone, you can't learn anything from.

And you know what's interesting? you know who're the best managers are? they're the great individual contributors, who never ever want to be a manager, but decide they have to be a manager, because no one else is going to being able to do job as them"

On money

"It's very interesting, I was worth over a million when I was 23 and over 10 million dollars when I was 24 and over 100 million dollar when I was 25. And it wasn't that important, because I never did it for money.

I think money is wonderful thing because it enables you to do things, enables you to invest in ideas that don't have short term pay backs like that, but specially at that point in life it was not the most important thing. The most important thing was the company, the people, the products we were making, what we are going to enable people do with these products. So I don' think about it a great deal.

I never sold any stock, just really believed that the company will do very well over the long term"

Elon musk quotes - part2

"You got to make sure that, what ever you are doing is the great product or service, it has to be really great."

"When I go back to saying earlier where, if you are a new company, unless its like some new industry or new market, if its untapped market, then this standard is lower for your product or service."

"But if you are entering anything where this is an existing market place, against large and crunched competitors, then your product or service needs to be much better than theirs."

"It cant be little bit better, because when you put yourself in the shoes of the consumer, and they say why I would buy as a consumer, always they're going to buy trusted brand unless there is a big difference"

"So lot of times, you know, entrepreneur will come up with something which is only slightly better and it can't just be slightly better, it needs to be lot better"

Elon Musk Quotes - Part 1

I think it is important to apply critical thinking to what one is doing and by that I mean just fundamentals of logic. Do you have the right axioms and are they relevant and are you making the right conclusions based on those axioms. THAT'S THE ESSENCE OF CRITICAL THINKING. And it is amazing how often people failed to do that.

And I think wishful thinking is innate in human brain. You want things to the way you wish seems to be ensure, tend to filter information, that you shouldn't filter. That's the most common flow I see.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's very difficult to start companies and quite painful and that's important to bear in mind & that's non-encouraging.  Bring it to this way; "If you need inspiring words, don't do it"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Interviewer: You have 3rd failure in a row. Did you think I need to pack this in?
Musk: Never

Interviewer: Why not?
Musk: I never give up. I mean I have to be dead or ...

Usain Bolt - Training behind the scenes

There are quite a few inspirational documentaries about Usain Bolt. The one here

is an extract of his training part.

Excerpts
-----------------

Bolt: Dying ... I think a lot of people just they see you run and they say ohh it look so easy, it look effortless. But before you get to that point its hard, like hard work.
It's day-in day-out sacrifice, day-in day-out just dying.
This time when you running, you just want to stop yourself and want to give up like there, and you just want to go home.
The day when you get up, you know what, you have a training today, you know its going to be intense thing, Oh god!, I dont want to go today, but you got to go, is so hard, people don't know.

Reporter: we are not used to see you so suffering

Bolt: Thats why you guys are here. so the true story in it

Reporter: This here is the reality? Do you mean that competition is not the reality?

Bolt: Listen! The work is behind the scene. Competition is easy part. Behind the scenes is where the work is done. Every thing is done to get that one reason, you need to run.

More More and More productive ...

How to be more productive in work and in personal life?

Be Fast

  • Always try to do tasks quickly with acceptable quality. The quality of the work shouldn't decline.
  • Always think what to do next ..., next ,,, next. Keep your mind less idle ... always think what next, next,...
  • Walk Fast Act Fast

Getting involved in Idle time

  • Always think about pending work in your idle time.
  • Think about pending tasks when you are in toilet, driving, while watching TV, etc and make plan if required
  • While watching TV you can pay bills, sell something in on-line,etc

Not getting sleep?

  • If you are not getting sleep in the night, instead of watching entertainment videos, try to read books or work on pending office work
  • Don't be afraid that if you sleep less, then you won't productive in office next day. If you had less sleep in previous day, just work little enthusiastically and you can still manage to finish the day doing considerable amount of pending task.
  • I can manage to work full day with 3 hours sleep in previous night. But I sleep well next day (8 hours) to regain the energy.

Starting the day

  • Start the day with the task you left unfinished yesterday, work on it for at-least 15 mins, before you switch to checking mails or any other urgent task
  • Example start your day looking into your yesterday's unfinished code, compile it without making any change, run it, test it. Add a print statement, compile & test it.

Distractions

Facebook, News websites, etc

  • Distractions are unavoidable. You might have habit like browsing news, Facebook, mails, etc
  • You can't stop looking into Facebook or news, but train your mind to come-out of it ASAP. For example, login to Facebook, glance it quickly for 3 mins, logout. Do it same for news websites.
  • Just remind your mind the pending task you need to finish

Caffeine at work

  • Taking coffee/tea, smoking will rejuvenate few people. Don't take long tea/coffee/smoking breaks, finish it ASAP (less than 5 mins)
  • Make it practice to have tea/coffee while working itself

Music at work

  • You can do certain tasks with your favourite music like coding, which actually rejuvenates you to work more.
  • But don't listen to music while writing/reading important mails. It needs more attention

Exercise

  • You can mix the exercise along with work. If you get struck or tired with work, go for 15 mins brisk walk around your office
  • Post-lunch if you are feeling sleepy, go for 15 mins brisk walk.

Why new developers fail ? xda developers

Watch this @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63nqNHFT2tM

Highlights

  • Read a book "the dip : A little book that teaches you when to quit (and when to stick) by Seth Godin
  • When you first begin to learn something new, it's exciting, fun. It is the honey moon stage.
  • Soon know the novelty of learning something new, where it can became very difficult, complicated, blow you off. This stage is called the dip.
  • One of the few can push thru this stage, which can take months or years. You learn how to rise out of the dip, things become smoother, predictable, less stressful and actually rewarding. This stage is the professional stage
  • Problem is most people won't work thru the dip. They quit. We all been there.
Tips
  1. Ask yourself, Is this worth sacrificing for? Is this worth working thru the dip? Decide actual day-to-day task of software development excites you. Is it some thing you enjoy?
  2. Match your resources with learning style. You say I'll get a book of java, by the end of summer, I'll create an Android App. Some people can do that, but it is the hardest way to do it. The least amount of structure, the least amount of feedback, you may need to go to a college or hacker school, in a class room, lot more structured.
  3. Have a mentor. Someone you look upto, someone who accomplished something, someone who ur inspiring to, who give you feedback. Not just technical feedback, but encouragement.
  4. Know the dip is coming and prepare yourself for it. Know that it will end, if you push thru and work thru the dip. In the end rewards are significant.
Suggestions.
  • Book: Creating Android Applications - Develop and Design - Chris Haseman
  • On-line course: Java for complete Beginners - from cave of programming.

Eleanor Roosevelt Quotes

With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts.

Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.

We are afraid to care too much, for fear that the other person does not care at all

We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face... we must do that which we think we cannot.

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

One's philosophy is not best expressed in words; it is expressed in the choices one makes... and the choices we make are ultimately our responsibility.

You must do the things you think you cannot do.

It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness.

People grow through experience if they meet life honestly and courageously. This is how character is built.

Probably the happiest period in life most frequently is in middle age, when the eager passions of youth are cooled, and the infirmities of age not yet begun; as we see that the shadows, which are at morning and evening so large, almost entirely disappear at midday

In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.

You have to accept whatever comes and the only important thing is that you meet it with courage and with the best that you have to give.

I think, at a child's birth, if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to endow it with the most useful gift, that gift should be curiosity.

Never allow a person to tell you no who doesn't have the power to say yes.

Do what you feel in your heart to be right- for you'll be criticized anyway. You'll be damned if you do, and damned if you don't

Happiness is not a goal; it is a by-product.

A little simplification would be the first step toward rational living, I think.

It is not fair to ask of others what you are not willing to do yourself.

When life is too easy for us, we must beware or we may not be ready to meet the blows which sooner or later come to everyone, rich or poor

It is not more vacation we need - it is more vocation.

When you cease to make a contribution, you begin to die.

Life must be lived and curiosity kept alive. One must never, for whatever reason, turn his back on life

My experience has been that work is almost the best way to pull oneself out of the depths

I believe that anyone can conquer fear by doing the things he fears to do, provided he keeps doing them until he gets a record of successful experience behind him.
