More More and More productive ...

How to be more productive in work and in personal life?

Be Fast

  • Always try to do tasks quickly with acceptable quality. The quality of the work shouldn't decline.
  • Always think what to do next ..., next ,,, next. Keep your mind less idle ... always think what next, next,...
  • Walk Fast Act Fast

Getting involved in Idle time

  • Always think about pending work in your idle time.
  • Think about pending tasks when you are in toilet, driving, while watching TV, etc and make plan if required
  • While watching TV you can pay bills, sell something in on-line,etc

Not getting sleep?

  • If you are not getting sleep in the night, instead of watching entertainment videos, try to read books or work on pending office work
  • Don't be afraid that if you sleep less, then you won't productive in office next day. If you had less sleep in previous day, just work little enthusiastically and you can still manage to finish the day doing considerable amount of pending task.
  • I can manage to work full day with 3 hours sleep in previous night. But I sleep well next day (8 hours) to regain the energy.

Starting the day

  • Start the day with the task you left unfinished yesterday, work on it for at-least 15 mins, before you switch to checking mails or any other urgent task
  • Example start your day looking into your yesterday's unfinished code, compile it without making any change, run it, test it. Add a print statement, compile & test it.

Distractions

Facebook, News websites, etc

  • Distractions are unavoidable. You might have habit like browsing news, Facebook, mails, etc
  • You can't stop looking into Facebook or news, but train your mind to come-out of it ASAP. For example, login to Facebook, glance it quickly for 3 mins, logout. Do it same for news websites.
  • Just remind your mind the pending task you need to finish

Caffeine at work

  • Taking coffee/tea, smoking will rejuvenate few people. Don't take long tea/coffee/smoking breaks, finish it ASAP (less than 5 mins)
  • Make it practice to have tea/coffee while working itself

Music at work

  • You can do certain tasks with your favourite music like coding, which actually rejuvenates you to work more.
  • But don't listen to music while writing/reading important mails. It needs more attention

Exercise

  • You can mix the exercise along with work. If you get struck or tired with work, go for 15 mins brisk walk around your office
  • Post-lunch if you are feeling sleepy, go for 15 mins brisk walk.

Why new developers fail ? xda developers

Watch this @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63nqNHFT2tM

Highlights

  • Read a book "the dip : A little book that teaches you when to quit (and when to stick) by Seth Godin
  • When you first begin to learn something new, it's exciting, fun. It is the honey moon stage.
  • Soon know the novelty of learning something new, where it can became very difficult, complicated, blow you off. This stage is called the dip.
  • One of the few can push thru this stage, which can take months or years. You learn how to rise out of the dip, things become smoother, predictable, less stressful and actually rewarding. This stage is the professional stage
  • Problem is most people won't work thru the dip. They quit. We all been there.
Tips
  1. Ask yourself, Is this worth sacrificing for? Is this worth working thru the dip? Decide actual day-to-day task of software development excites you. Is it some thing you enjoy?
  2. Match your resources with learning style. You say I'll get a book of java, by the end of summer, I'll create an Android App. Some people can do that, but it is the hardest way to do it. The least amount of structure, the least amount of feedback, you may need to go to a college or hacker school, in a class room, lot more structured.
  3. Have a mentor. Someone you look upto, someone who accomplished something, someone who ur inspiring to, who give you feedback. Not just technical feedback, but encouragement.
  4. Know the dip is coming and prepare yourself for it. Know that it will end, if you push thru and work thru the dip. In the end rewards are significant.
Suggestions.
  • Book: Creating Android Applications - Develop and Design - Chris Haseman
  • On-line course: Java for complete Beginners - from cave of programming.

Eleanor Roosevelt Quotes

With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts.

Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.

We are afraid to care too much, for fear that the other person does not care at all

We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face... we must do that which we think we cannot.

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

One's philosophy is not best expressed in words; it is expressed in the choices one makes... and the choices we make are ultimately our responsibility.

You must do the things you think you cannot do.

It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness.

People grow through experience if they meet life honestly and courageously. This is how character is built.

Probably the happiest period in life most frequently is in middle age, when the eager passions of youth are cooled, and the infirmities of age not yet begun; as we see that the shadows, which are at morning and evening so large, almost entirely disappear at midday

In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.

You have to accept whatever comes and the only important thing is that you meet it with courage and with the best that you have to give.

I think, at a child's birth, if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to endow it with the most useful gift, that gift should be curiosity.

Never allow a person to tell you no who doesn't have the power to say yes.

Do what you feel in your heart to be right- for you'll be criticized anyway. You'll be damned if you do, and damned if you don't

Happiness is not a goal; it is a by-product.

A little simplification would be the first step toward rational living, I think.

It is not fair to ask of others what you are not willing to do yourself.

When life is too easy for us, we must beware or we may not be ready to meet the blows which sooner or later come to everyone, rich or poor

It is not more vacation we need - it is more vocation.

When you cease to make a contribution, you begin to die.

Life must be lived and curiosity kept alive. One must never, for whatever reason, turn his back on life

My experience has been that work is almost the best way to pull oneself out of the depths

I believe that anyone can conquer fear by doing the things he fears to do, provided he keeps doing them until he gets a record of successful experience behind him.
